MSG Tyler Shultz, originally from Lebanon, Pennsylvania, joined the Army as a saxophone player in 2006. MSG Shultz served at the TRADOC Band at Fort Monroe, Virginia, the SHAPE International Band in Mons, Belgium, and the I Corps Army Band at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, before joining The U.S. Army Field Band as a Tour Coordinator in 2014. While at SHAPE, MSG Shultz toured extensively throughout Europe with the NATO Jazz Orchestra, with notable performances at the Guinness Jazz Festival (Cork, Ireland), Imatra Big Band Festival (Imatra, Finland), and the Chateau de Versailles (Versailles, France). In 2008 MSG Shultz was recognized as the Fort Monroe Soldier of the Year, and in 2014 had the distinction of being named the Army Music Junior NCO of the Year (Active Component). Prior to enlisting, MSG Shultz earned a B.M. in Music Education from the University of Maryland, College Park where he studied saxophone with Mr. Chris Vadala.
